Difficult Conversations in Interdisciplinary Care: A Case Study
Seminar Description: Sometimes after assessment, forward movement in a project dictates there exists a need for change in process, protocols, and/or personnel. This seminar addresses the importance of having an interdisciplinary team for the holistic development of healthcare educational experiences, and how to have a positive, professional conversation when changes are necessary. We will be using a case study for learners to problem-solve how to implement necessary changes when not every member of the team agrees. This seminary will include small group breakout rooms that will allow the learner the opportunity to practice problem-solving in a collaborative setting, including discussing difficult conversations that might need to take place.
After attending this session, the learner will be able to identify components of positive and negative team dynamics, maintain professionalism and collaboration through disagreements, and take away strategies to approach difficult conversations with colleagues. The theme addressed is The Developing and Sustaining Leadership in Interprofessional Practice and Education, as we will be discussing leadership strategies to maintain and develop collaborative practice through healthy communication.
In support of improving patient care, this activity is planned and implemented by The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education Office of Interprofessional Continuing Professional Development (National Center OICPD).
