Kylie received her bachelor’s in social work from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. After completing her undergraduate degree, she worked in the field as a child welfare investigator and domestic violence and sexual assault advocate for a total of five years before attending the University of Oklahoma to receive her master’s in social work in 2020. She joined the OUHSC IPE team part-time in 2020, and began full-time as the IPE Simulation Manager in June of 2021.

This seminar addresses the importance of having an interdisciplinary team for the holistic development of healthcare educational experiences, and how to have a positive, professional conversation when changes are necessary. Poster Description: Background: Adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) are a significantly underserved population in terms of health care. People with I/DD experience consequences from the lack of preparation most health profession students have in working with people with these disabilities. People with I/DD frequently have adverse experiences in medical settings and many practicing care providers lack confidence in treating people with I/DD. Lightning Talk Description: This Lightning Talk will address how IPE at OUHSC has utilized a standardized template to implement a social simulation specific to 2S-LGBTQ+ outpatient care. This simulation only hires standardized patients (SPs) that have lived experience as members of the LGBTQ community.
