Lightning Talk Description: This Lightning Talk will address how IPE at OUHSC has utilized a standardized template to implement a social simulation specific to 2S-LGBTQ+ outpatient care. This simulation only hires standardized patients (SPs) that have lived experience as members of the LGBTQ community. By creating a realistic experience for learners where they are receiving feedback, education and perspective from individuals with lived experience, this simulation hopes to contribute to better care and education for the LGBTQ+ community.
This simulation is developed and implemented in partnership with community members for educational purposes that include educating future health professionals on positive interviewing and interacting skills with members of the LGBTQ+ community. This addresses the theme of person, family and community engaged practice education.
In support of improving patient care, this activity is planned and implemented by The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education Office of Interprofessional Continuing Professional Development (National Center OICPD). The National Center OICPD is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
As a Jointly Accredited Provider, the National Center is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The National Center maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive continuing education credits.
The National Center OICPD (JA#: 4008105) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs).
