The National Center for Interprofessional Practice is pleased to announce that the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) Unity Clinic has been selected as a recipient of the 2023 George E. Thibault, MD Nexus Award.
The OUHSC Unity Clinic is an exemplar of a student-led, academic-practice partnership that achieves outcomes in student learning and increases the community’s access to care among underserved populations of Oklahoma. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Unity Clinic partnered with local community leaders to meet the needs of communities with the greatest health disparities and lowest vaccination rates to make COVID-19 vaccines more convenient and accessible. Unity Clinic teams assisted the campus community in the deliverance of over 50,000 vaccine doses, to over 11% of Oklahoma county’s residents. In 2023, Unity Clinic is providing on-site primary care four days a week at Crossings Community Clinic Midtown and will launch a new speech and hearing clinic service.
Through the Unity Clinic, primary care, collaborative care, and health outreach initiatives are delivered to more than 500 patients a year through the engagement of 18 professions across eight OUHSC colleges.
