Lightning Talk Description: Aging is an individualized experience and has added levels of complexity for retired women living in faith-based communities. This Practice-Education Partnership Lightning Talk will highlight a unique collaboration model including sisters of a contemporary Benedictine monastery (n=19), and students, faculty, and providers from Geropsychology, Nursing, Social Work, Health Promotion, and Athletic Training (n=21). This novel team worked and learned together to holistically assess and better understand the physical, mental, and social health of this understudied population. Each student group assessed different aspects of the sisters’ wellbeing using disciplines specific measures to gain information on cognitive health, functional movement, lifestyle factors, and social engagement. Then the team worked together to understand the outcomes and creatively plan sustainable next steps to support the health and wellbeing of this unique faith-based community.
Attendees of this talk will learn about the partnership process, the IPE Team members, their respective roles and responsibilities, the assessment tools used, aggregate level outcomes, and the future health promotion opportunities that were developed through collaboration around the data collected. The goal of this talk is to spark creative ideas of new possible partnerships for those looking to expand IPE into their community while training diverse interprofessional teams. These types of innovative partnerships can be used as meaningful IPE experiences to help improve population health, enhance the health and wellbeing of both individuals and communities, while teaching students that effective collaboration can be a catalyst for team and provider health as highlighted in the Quadruple Aim. This program clearly illustrates the mutually beneficial outcomes that can be achieved for students, individuals, and communities through innovative community-based partnerships.
