Lightning Talk Description: This lightning talk revisits an innovative continuing education curriculum for health professionals highlighted at the 2022 National Center Summit with an additional year’s worth of data. This program helps busy clinician-educators develop and apply the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies in their roles as providers and preceptors within interprofessional clinical learning environments. This work is an example of theme 2: Practice-Education Partnerships Advancing Care with People and Communities. Not only does this activity provide professional development, participants also receiving continuing education credit. Preceptors create powerful influences on their learners via role modeling (Girotto et al, 2019). Considering the scope of this influence, there is limited existing content created for preceptors to enhance their skills for interprofessional precepting (Barnes et al, 2017).
This session will summarize the hybrid curriculum content for the WILD Series (Workplace Interprofessional Learning & Development), present participant profession demographic and program feedback data, and share lessons learned in implementation and assessment. Each WILD Series offering teaches the application of one of the IPEC competencies: Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values and Ethics. Each series consists of 5 weekly emails and one debriefing session. Values and Ethics content is rooted in consideration of social determinants and health equity. Weekly emails include 3-5 minute content videos, tangible skills practice prompts, reflection questions, and resources for further study. Each week, preceptors are encouraged to share the content and skills with colleagues and learners. The synchronous debriefing session involves small groups of preceptors exchanging personal applications of the content. The curriculum is interprofessional at its core as its authors are from three different professional backgrounds (nursing, physical therapy, psychology). After attending this Lightning Talk, audience members will leave with creative ideas to foster the IPE competencies of busy clinicians.
