Healthy Development Community Clinic: A Blueprint for Accessible, Equitable Clinical Services

Poster Description: This presentation describes the background and launch of San José State University’s Healthy Development Community Clinic (HDCC), founded in 2019. The HDCC seeks to promote equity through holistic wellness for children, youth, and families. The HDCC presents a unique collaboration between clinical researchers in Child and Adolescent Development, Speech-Language Pathology, and Psychology. Through primary and secondary prevention methods, the HDCC provides no-cost clinical services for communication (speech/language/hearing) and mental health needs to a diverse population and engages in regular community outreach and education through novel formats. The HDCC opened in May 2022 and provides culturally- and linguistically-responsive services in English, Spanish, & Vietnamese through evidence-based screenings, initial evaluations, and brief interventions (individual,.

The HDCC aims to connect families with existing resources and promote lifelong habits to sustain health and wellness, while reducing the impact of unmet communicative and mental health needs in our community. Through the HDCC model, we seek to train future practitioners how to serve a diverse community by learning in an interprofessional, community-nested context. The purpose of this presentation is to share information about the HDCC itself, services offered, initial response from the community, and planned next steps.
