Interprofessional Collaboration to Ensure Quality Care for Individuals and Communities with Chronic Pain and Substance Use Disorder: Strategies for Educational and Practice Settings
Seminar Description: This seminar shares lessons learned, and practical strategies used by teams from diverse institutions who are working to foster collaboration to improve outcomes for individuals and communities dealing with chronic pain and substance use disorder. This seminar shares exemplars from multiple contexts, including the academic setting, clinical learning environments, clinical practice, and community engagement.
It directly addresses the conference theme of practice-education partnership to address people and communities impacted by persistent pain and substance use disorder by bringing together teams from diverse institutions with the shared goal of supporting these individuals and communities. Sharing strategies, resources, and lessons learned from engaging in this work.
Learning objectives:
1. Articulate why interprofessional collaboration matters to individuals and communities addressing substance use disorder and chronic pain
2. Identify at least 3 key strategies that can support successful collaboration in substance use disorder and chronic pain education and care
3. Discuss how intentional design can support successful interprofessional collaborative initiatives
The intent of this seminar is to prompt attendees to consider how they can work to improve outcomes for people and populations experiencing chronic pain and substance use disorder through their collaborative endeavors by empowering them with knowledge of how others have designed and delivered impactful learning and practice collaborations, and strategies that can support success.
Active learning strategies:
Participant workshop guides will be used to present key information rather than through presentation slides.
Silent reflection and writing will be used to encourage deep learning
Mentimeter polling will be used to connect attendees to the subject matter and allow for rapid feedback from all attendees
Participants will work together to identify and document strategies they can directly apply to their own settings.
In support of improving patient care, this activity is planned and implemented by The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education Office of Interprofessional Continuing Professional Development (National Center OICPD). The National Center OICPD is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
