Lightning Talk Description: We will discuss the development and implementation of a virtual, asynchronous, modular “Clinical Essentials of Telehealth” curriculum pilot designed for interprofessional health education students. Its current iteration includes eight modules focused on teaching the logistics of performing a telehealth visit and performing a systems-based virtual assessment.
Existing modules include: A Practical Approach to Performing a Telehealth Visit: Pearls and Pitfalls, General Assessment, Head and Neck Assessment, Cardiopulmonary Assessment, Musculoskeletal Assessment-General Assessment, Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal Assessment, Lower Extremity Musculoskeletal Assessment, Neurology Assessment, and Dermatology Assessment. The modules utilize Playposit, an interactive, web-based educational platform that allows for the collection of student interaction and performance data.
Key data include: number of times a module was used, time spent by a learner engaging with a module, and correct responses to quiz questions. In addition, we will discuss the results of our pilot study and how our innovative approach to teaching essential clinical skills allows for incorporation of this novel content into the existing course curricula of health profession programs despite many interprofessional program differences in learning resources and curricular time.
Finally, future directions, challenges, and opportunities for expansion of the curriculum will be discussed as they relate to the overall goal of enhancing provider and patient ability to successfully and effectively engage in telehealth; especially in areas with limited access to in-person interprofessional health resources or in patients with limited ability to access in-person care.
