Melissa Dalhoe, MSW, LICSW, is a dedicated social worker with expertise in mental health. With a Master's degree in Social Work and ongoing DSW studies at St. Thomas she has directed outpatient programs, provided therapy and case management, and supported individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis through the NAVIGATE program. Melissa is also a trainer and consultant contributing to the development of first episode psychosis programs. With a passion for teaching and mentoring, Melissa supervises several social workers and is an assistant director of the inclusive excellence and wellbeing council in the psychiatry department at the University of Minnesota.

Objective: Recent events, including the case of a Somali patient impacted by the death of George Floyd, have motivated the authors to assess the current state of cultural humility among University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry residents in response to ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the department.
