Mara Demuth is a first-year medical student at CU School of Medicine Fort Collins Branch. She graduated from the University of Tulsa with a M.A. in Clinical Psychology. During her education, she focused on research involving chronic pain risk in Native American populations from a psychophysiological perspective. Following school, she worked in neuroscience investigating neural correlates of Native American cultural identity and resilience factors. She eventually hopes to work within the Indian Health Service and remains passionate about serving underrepresented populations. She loves integrating her psychology background with her new medical perspective when working with clients at the Murphy center.

Lightning Talk Description: There are over 580,000 individuals who were unhoused in 2022 and an estimated 10% of people who are unhoused have pets. These pets can provide safety and mental health benefits for their human companions, but they can also limit their owners’ access to transportation, shelters, housing, and medical facilities. The Street Dog Coalition is a team of veterinary and medical professionals and students who provide free medical care and related services to pets of people who are, or are at risk of becoming, unhoused.
