Dr. Fei Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is co-director of The Excellence in Anesthesiology at Chapel Hill Education Research (TEACHER) Lab and the Academic Medicine Rotation of the department. Dr. Chen is chair of the Scholarship Committee and member of the Leadership Council of the Academy of Educators of UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Chen’s research focuses on assessment and instructional design for enhanced learning in medical education. Dr. Chen has designed and implemented multiple research projects on competency-based assessment, simulation-based education, and formative assessment.

Background: To improve health outcomes, the social determinants of health (SDoH) need to be integrated throughout prelicensure education, with experiential learning to aid in transferring theory to practice. Interprofessional education (IPE) is vital because a multifaceted, team-based approach is needed for complex SDoH.
