C. Derek Miller, MSN, RN, CCRN-K is the Burn Outreach & Prevention Educator for the NC Jaycee Burn Center and adjunct faculty with the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing. In many ways, burn care is a prime example of the collaboration required from complex, multidisciplinary teams across a broad continuum of care, from emergency services to critical care to recover & aftercare. That has informed his view of optimal healthcare and is why he is a longtime ally and advocate of UNC's Office of Interprofessional Education & Practice (IPEP). Derek enjoys sharing his passion for "cross-pollinating" between disciplines whenever he teaches healthcare professionals in ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, or ABLS; and when he teaches aspiring nursing or paramedic students across the state. Regardless of diagnosis or setting, patients and best served by high-functioning, collaborative care teams.

Lightning Talk Description: This interactive interprofessional activity demonstrates how health professionals work cooperatively to treat patients with a traumatic brain injury (TBI); helping students to understand a patient's journey from the moment of injury through the continuum of in-patient and outpatient care.
