Anagha Ashokan is a third-year medical student at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University. She is dedicated to promoting health equity and improving access to healthcare for all patients. She joined the Vanderbilt Program in Interprofessional Learning for the unique opportunity to learn alongside students of different professions and understand how the diverse perspectives brought by each member of an interprofessional team create the best patient care environment.

Interprofessional Student Poster Description: Background: Opioid use disorders affect over 16 million people worldwide and over 2.1 million people in the United States. In the last 20 years, overdose deaths involving prescription opioids have increased by 5 times. The 2022 CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids describes patient education as a critical step in improving patient care when prescribing opioid medications.
