Professor Amy D. Funk serves as Chair and Program Director for the Department of Dental Hygiene, School of Dentistry, West Virginia University. She serves on numerous local, School, University, and State committees and served as President of West Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association. She has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Vice President’s Go First Award, Outstanding Teaching Awards. Her professional interests and presentations include curriculum development, creating an inclusive health care team, oral health management for the HIV/AIDS patient, virtual course development, instrumentation, tobacco cessation, and infection control.

Empathy and the understanding of how privilege can affect health care are essential in providing proper care for patients.
